The Kpopalypse 2022 Objectification Survey results part 1 of 4 – best FEMALE BOOBS and MALE TORSO/ABS in k-pop

Yes it’s that time you’ve been patiently waiting for all year, yes it’s time for the results of the 2022 Kpopalypse Objectification Survey!  Let’s take a look at how Kpopalypse readers voted in the all-important categories of male and female k-pop idol flesh!

Is it true that k-pop fans really enjoy reducing their favourite k-pop biases to nothing but objects for mere personal gratification?  Of course they do, after all the entire k-pop industry is built from the ground up on objectification, and the 2022 Objectification Survey had a huge amount of entries from people who are ready and willing to objectify idols!  Let’s take a look at what Kpopalypse readers felt were the most objectifiable people in k-pop!

As per previous years, voters were asked to choose up to three nominees in each category, best first, and points were allocated as per the following system:

  • Your first choice was weighted 100% higher than your second choice
  • Your second choice was weighted 66% higher than your third choice
  • If you doubled or tripled on choices, only the first choice was counted
  • Choices after the third were disregarded in all cases

Scores were then tallied to give the final results across all categories.

The four results posts are as follows:

Part 1: FEMALE BOOBS and MALE ABS/TORSO – this post!

Part 2: FEMALE and MALE ASSESclick HERE for the results!

Part 3: FEMALE and MALE LEGSclick HERE for the results!

Part 4: OVERALL MOST ATTRACTIVE FEMALES and MALESclick HERE for the results!

Remember folks – that if you object to any of the choices here for any reason, you only have yourselves to blame as these were 100% your votes, not mine.  Kpopalypse does not even cast a vote – these are NOT my picks but YOURS, and this isn’t like a rigged Korean TV show where the “judges” get a say and can overturn fan opinion.  If you want to see a certain result, then it’s your responsibility to spread the surveys to the people who are going to vote for your faves!

On the other hand, if you object to this entire post in general, what are you even doing here?  Don’t you have homework?  Run along now and play with the others, don’t make me tell your parents how to access your browsing history.  Oh, what… you’re staying, so you can pretend you’re “outraged” while looking at the very same pictures and videos of your bias that you already had on your computer and phone anyway?  Well, okay then, read on I guess.

For the fifth year running, Twice’s Jihyo comes out on top in the female boobs category, easily outpacing the competition.  While her lead wasn’t quite as commanding as last year, there was still plenty of love for Jihyo to give her a convincing victory.

The high profile of aespa over the last year has certainly helped “them girls” gain a big boost in popularity, and SM have also been carefully boosting Karina’s upper-body presentation with lots of sheer clothing ever since I decided that it was worthy of analysis.  Little surprise that Karina built on her already impressive voting performance from the previous year and moved into second place for 2022!

Slipping a place due to some tough new competition, Eunbi still collected more votes this year than previously!  No, it wasn’t a “glitch” in the results, just competition heating up in the all important boobs category!  So much for objectification of idols being out of style.

You didn’t need to be a data scientist to predict that Twice’s Momo was going to perform well in the boobs category once again, and she maintained her placing from the last two years easily.

Girls’ Forever Generation were so huge and iconic in the k-pop world and especially the world of k-pop boob appreciators, that just simple news of a possible comeback ensured that Sunny received more votes and a higher placing this year than last, despite her doing absolutely fucking nothing this year whatsoever.

One of the big movers this year, Olivia Hye shot up in popularity in 2022 in a big way.  Maybe it was all the weird ill-fitting leather suits her creepy agency kept cramming her into, or maybe it was her portrayal as a heartwarming yet misunderstood lovelorn soul seeking redemption in the latest Kpopalypse computer game, who knows.  Note that the above photo is an official Blockberry promotional image, and we know what they’re like when it comes to conforming to Korea’s idiotic beauty standards, so in reality she’s probably much better looking than depicted here.

Hyosung didn’t do much this year music-wise, but she did appear in a cool video about how dating and relationship violence in Korea is still a big problem that people need to take more seriously.  Kpopalypse supports non-violence and treating your partners and love interests with respect at all times.  If every person who had the urge to be violent towards others instead redirected their negative impulses into a harmless activity that hurts nobody such as objectification of their favourite k-pops, perhaps the world would be a better place.

Gahyeon moved up a couple spots in the polling this year, probably on the back of Happyface doubling down on all those environmentally friendly vegan leather costumes.  The first person who donates more than $420.69 USD of worthless shitcoins to Kpopalypse will receive this place in the objectification list as an NFT.

Slipping a couple places but not yet out of the top ten, Hayoung is still showing a strong placing for a veteran idol who was often considered to be in the shadow of her groupmates, popularity-wise.  Long-time readers will know that these lists are as much about popularity as they are about objectification, so Hayoung’s placing here just shows her enduring popularity among k-pop objectification connoisseurs.

It’s not unusual for an ex-idol who hasn’t done any music in years to still make these lists, but it’s a lot more unusual for them to rocket back into these lists out of nowhere after being completely absent.  The last time Ellin was in these lists was 2020 where she placed #36, and last year she didn’t even chart at all.  I think it’s her newfound fame as a objectification-friendly streamer which has helped her along, but whatever the case, readers were still ready to pop in some votes for their favourite ex-Crayon Pop idol.

The first genuinely brand new entrant to picture status for 2022, I didn’t even know this person existed but now I do so thanks to my readers for keeping Kpopalypse fresh and giving this site some tiny microscopic degree of relevance to current events, I appreciate it.

Yeri’s been kicking around the bottom end of picture status for a while, and this year she made it through in amongst some tough competition, just scraping over the 100-vote mark thanks to Red Velvet’s continuing high profile.  I bet Mina voted for her.

Shit, do I need to even write anything?  Probably not, but I will anyway because I’m a writer and that’s what writers do.  I don’t even vote in these things, because they’re supposed to be your opinions not mine, but if I did, I would have probably voted for Swan.  Even my partner came into the room while I was watching the above video and said “mmmm… nice boots”.  I’m pretty sure she said “boots”.  Congratulations to Swan for making it into picture status this year!

Of course an objectification survey result post is not complete without a hefty serving of hunky man-meat for you to drool over – let’s now take a look at the male upper-body category for 2022!

Well, that was predictable.  If you’re wondering why the points for everybody else in the male torso category this year are so low, it’s all the votes for Wonho, that’s why.  Compared to his outstanding work objectifying himself at every possible opportunity, barely anyone else even looked like they were trying, with Wonho scoring over five times the votes of his nearest rival!

#2 – KAI – EXO

199 points

(2021 position – #3)

After the top entrants votes are counted, competition in the male upper-body category gets a lot tougher, and Kai’s enduring status as a veteran performer and equally enduring physique ensured that he came out on top of the heap.

The Stray Kids performer showed his best ever voting turnout in 2022, collecting lots of extra votes and places.  When someone is able to push Shindong away from his position in the polls, that’s when you know they have true k-pop objectification relevance.

157 points

(2021 position – #2)

Gosh, Shindong didn’t do so well this year compared to previously.  Could the big guy be getting lazy?  Or maybe it’s the clothes.  Anyway, he’d better lift his game if he wants to beat Wonho.  I have faith.

SHINee have been pretty active lately so it’s only natural that Minho ascended a few places this year, even if I had to trawl through the archives to find any content I hadn’t used yet because he doesn’t do much fanservice anymore.

107 points

(2021 position – #19)

Minhyuk has certainly been making an effort with his physique lately, and returned with a healthier image.  Kpopalypse readers sure noticed, awarding him picture status for 2022!

NCT members always do well in the survey results and this year Johnny was the best performer, even if he doesn’t engage with fanservice quite as much as he used to.

#8 – B.M – KARD

96 points

(2021 position – #5)

B.M’s positions in the results have been slipping which is surprising because there was a time when he was #2 only to Wonho, and it’s certainly not like he’s gone soft.  Perhaps KARD need more activities that put his assets in a positive light, or perhaps my readers are just punishing him for having groupmates who cheat on Shannon Williams.

Hongseok has been an enduring favourite in these polls, and he performs well again this year, improving on his health as well as last year’s placing.

#10 – TAECYEON – 2PM

89 points

(2021 position – #10)

Taecyeon appears in the polls again, at exactly the same placing as last year, and with the exact same amount of points – now that’s consistency!  Kpopalypse readers clearly felt that his upper body presentation was consistent enough to consistently objectify.

There was a time when there were more votes for BTS members in general, but as their global popularity has increased, their votes in Kpopalypse objectification polls have gone downward.  Perhaps it’s just due to overexposure, but then many would argue that there isn’t a such thing as exposing Jungkook’s abs too much.

(2021 position – #4)

Shownu took a big dive in the polls this year, and I’m not sure why, but it was hard to find good quality fanservice of him that was recent, so maybe he could learn a thing or two from his ex-groupmate about that.  Time will tell!

  2. 1) Swan looks like the lovechild of Sana and Chaeyoung from Twice, and I have this list to thank for discovering her and Purple Kiss more generally. She has a really great voice and it’s nice to find a group where the ladies are talented AND most of them are pretty clearly distinguishable from each other, visually and vocally.

    2) Fun fact – the composition of a person’s boobs is affected by whether they’re predominantly breast tissue, or fat. That’s why some people lost weight and lose almost all their boobage (Hyeju? She looks noticeably thinner to me, although all of Loona do, sadly) and others don’t see much change (Jihyo!).

  3. Clicked this list to look up for NCT Jeno. At #24 I’m not pleased but at least my creed’s deity’s not largely ignored now.
