It’s time for another Kpopalypse roundup! Let’s check out new stuff!

Pritz
This week’s roundup nearly didn’t happen as I almost had to pull a sickie on the entire show due to rapidly losing my voice from a viral infection. Fortunately high determination levels won the day.
Hyomin – Sketch
T-ara’s Hyomin out-Hyunas Hyuna’s Hyuna effortlessly, which I expected, but what I didn’t expect is for this song to actually work.
Red Velvet – One Of These Nights
Red Velvet could have used Hyomin’s producer going over this track to see if he could have added something vaguely interesting to it because there sure is nothing here right now.
Jiyoung – Radio
I definitely HAVE heard this song before, or one that sounds 99% identical, but where from, I have no idea. I didn’t like it back then much either.
Jiyoung – I’m Just Not Into You
It’s better than this unexciting BoA-by-numbers, though.
Bauuer ft. MIA & G-Dragon – Temple
Not great but better than all CL’s 57 “American debuts” so far.
Luhan – Adventure Time
“Disneyland reflects the real life.” Unquestionably a phrase destined for the Kpopalypse Lexicon.
GOT7 – Fly
The chorus is okay but the slow bullshit in the rest of it is just the same boring slow bullshit 90% of pop music is these days.
Baba – Catch Me
All the bounciness and gaudy strangeness of Orange Caramel but without the melody.
Mercury – Don’t Stop
This Europop song is just the same four chords over and over but is certainly pleasant enough, just like the girls themselves. Everyone looks so generically beautiful these days, don’t they?
BONUS SONGS
CLC – High Heels
Actually I played this a month ago but the full video just came out so I thought I might as well stick it here just to meet Kpopalypse blog’s minimum Sorn quota.
Jessi – Excessive Love
Obsession over vocals is a disgusting, worthless cancer on k-pop even when the performers CAN sing, but to see vocally-obsessed trashbags fawn over this obviously 90% computer-generated performance really brings home how little these self-appointed Internet vocal experts really know.
Ailee – Love Now
A new Ailee MV without Ailee actually in the MV is like socks for Kpopalypse’s birthday. Curse OSTs and their abundance of stock footage for MV use.
K.will – Talk Love
I actually can’t whistle at all and it’s one of the multitude of things I was bullied about as a kid. K.will please stop bullying me with this Bruno Mars bullshit song thank you.
That’s it for another Kpopalypse roundup – more next week!
The thing is, Mercury is not generic since one of their member is a transgender.
Clearly my humour has been lost in translation here.
While I agree that Excessive Love isn’t that great a song Jessi still has a very pleasing voice of which I enjoy the color of. Even if it is processed we can agree that pretty much everything is going to be processed so that levels out the playing field and I think her singing makes this song more enjoyable to me.
your weekly updates actually help me to know what’s going on so far in kpop since lifes been so busy so thanks!
say how would you react to onew doing an OST for DOTS?
er what
They’re asking what you would think if Onew did a song for Descendants of the Sun, that boring as dirt looking drama that everyone is obsessed with.
Oh right, I haven’t even seen this drama so I don’t have an opinion on this.
Do you have any songs that you listen too just for fun even if you don’t necessarily like things about it- if that makes sense? Like for example, I don’t like hello bitches because its just regular ol’ generic ‘hip hop’ dubstepish beat with nonsense lyrics, but I listen to it because it just makes me feel hyped- or do you just not listen to it at all if you don’t like it? And has your opinion changed on some songs you don’t like?
No, because if I listen to it for fun that means that I actually like it. I might not like every single element in a song though, but some songs have both things I enjoy and things I don’t enjoy (good example – OMG’s “Closer”). Yeah opinions of some songs have changed over time but not drastically… for instance these days I like Gangkiz’ “Mama” more than “Honey Honey” whereas it was the other way around when I did the 2012 best list…. but a 180 about-face opinion change, no, not that I can remember.
jesus, this week SUCKED, nothing worthwhile whatsoever. And to be honest, that’s how I feel about 2016 as a whole so far…
There’s been stuff that I liked this year for sure but this week wasn’t the best week!
I’m honestly not feeling 2016 that much, what with all these boring comebacks aiming for that downtempo/PBR&B feel. Everyone is sounding the same these days, which is unfortunate. At least that Dal Shabet song was great (and to think it’s a brave brothers production!). Here’s hoping that as soon as summer hits, Korean producers will get their shit together.
What did you think of the new Dean song?
The beautiful thing about Kpopalypse roundup, and a large part of the reason why I started this series, is precisely so people didn’t have to keep asking me questions like this one. Just wait a week and you’ll find out.
lol you should look more into mercury, im quite surprised you refer them as ‘generally beautiful girls’
srsly do it it might surprise you – n make another interesing rant post maybe??
gr8 stuff btw
Trust me I know all about Mercury. My sense of humour just hasn’t registered with you.
haha too subtle?? i just realized there’s a similar comment to mine above
anyway keep up the good work
